Hasselblad announced the 907X anniversary edition kit to celebrate its 80th birthday. It includes a CFV II-50C digital back, 907X body, control grip, optical seefinder and XCD30mm f/3.5 lenses.
Hasselblad claims that the special edition kit will be limited to 800 worldwide in commemoration of the 80-year anniversary of the introduction of the first Hasselblad camera (the HK-7), in 1941.
The company states that Hasselblad cameras are trusted by photographers. They have captured many iconic moments and touching stories since their inception. “Hasselblad has pushed the boundaries of medium format imaging technology over the past eight decades with cutting-edge developments in photography style and innovative imaging technology. This has provided endless inspiration for creators who strive to achieve excellence.”
According to the company, the Super Wide Camera (SWC) was created in 1950. This system was developed before aspherical lenses were available. It was therefore more difficult to make a wide-angle lens. Hasselblad solved this problem using a rangefinder design, which allowed the rear element of the lens to be located closer to the focal plane. This reduced distortion and aberration.
Hasselblad claims that the 30mm wide angle lens was chosen for the anniversary kit due to its resemblance to the Biogon 38mm wide angle used in the SWC.
The 907X Anniversary Edition features a new lens design, which is mostly silver rather than black. It also has an etched focus ring with a Hasselblad logo print. The grip and camera are covered with black grain leatherette. They have been anodized with grey trim. These colors were chosen to match the colors used by the SWC. The camera’s one side has a metal plate reading “Since 1941.”
The 907X camera is compatible with HC/HCD V and XPan Lens Adapters. This, Hasselblad claims, “enriches” image capture capabilities with the CFV II-50C digital back. The digital back blends seamlessly with a traditional film camera body and combines digital and analog technologies.
As mentioned above, the 907X Anniversary Edition Kit is limited in quantity. Pre-orders are currently possible for $15,100
